After attending Richards as a freshman, Lynn transferred to Shepard when the new school opened and immediately excelled athletically. Nimienski played volleyball, basketball and softball in high school. She even earned a spot on the varsity softball team as a freshman at Richards. At Shepard, each season brought new accolades for her. Nimienski would win all-conference and all-area honors in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She earned all-state honors as well.

Nimienski capped her athletic career at Shepard by earning the Female Athlete of the Year for 1978.

After graduation, Nimienski played volleyball and softball in college and received many conference and state awards.
